The varsity boys soccer team advances to the the Section 2 Class C quarterfinals. They will be heading to Lake George tomorrow for a game at 3:00 p.m.
Yesterday, Middleburgh hosted Hadley-Luzerne in the opening round of sectional play. Middleburgh applied constant pressure in the first half, but H-L played a compact back line and MCS was unable to convert despite having many quality opportunities.
The second half would tell a different story. Keeping their composure and showing maturity, Middleburgh needed just two minutes to find the nets as Kaurice Bell sent a perfect ball across the box to Austin Johns. Johns was able to collect the ball and convert the game’s first goal. Middleburgh would score just two minutes later as Kaurice Bell was able to weave through the H-L defense and score a low driven shot past the keeper. Two minutes after that, Johns would score his second goal of the game. H-L pushed forward and created some chances moving forward, but the Knight’s defense held strong. With 7 minutes left, Bell would score the game’s final goal ending the game with a score of 4-0.
“This was a solid team performance by Middleburgh with the back line of DJ Vance, Nate Wood, Troy Cammer and Kevin Fuller keeping the H-L offense at bay. Tristin Diaz and Gage Calitri held down the middle of the field and Ben Croote earned the clean sheet in the goal,” said Coach Greg Johns. “For the Eagles, keeper Zack Caldwell, Caden Wilson, and Mason Conklin had solid games. Well played by both sides. All class all the way through,” Coach Johns said.
