Puerto Rico Trip – June 24, 2023 – June 30, 2023 – Spanish III Students
MCS students will travel to Puerto Rico as part of their Spanish III class curriculum. While there they will explore the cobbled streets and colonial fortifications of Old San Juan, try mofongo and pinchos. They will travel into the central mountain range to enjoy the views from Cueva Ventana before spending an afternoon on an eco-adventure in the rainforest. Additionally, they will hike into El Yunque Rainforest, swim at La Mina Falls and climb Yokahu Tower. While there they will learn how to surf at Luquillo and take the ferry to Vieques. And finally they will experience the world’s brightest bio-bay on a night kayaking trip.

MES Arts Enrichment Week – June 26 – June 30, 2023 – K-6 students, 8AM – 12 PM @ MES
MES students will participate in an enriched, challenging, and fun-filled creative exploration summer program in art, music, instruments, and theatre. The program will offer tailored experiences in music, instruments, movement, visual art, and drama. Students will benefit from expert instruction; a nurturing environment; learning and practicing with peers; exploring instruments, styles, and art forms; growing in their understanding of the language of music (music theory); honing performance skills; exposure to local artists, and learn innovative ways to create art.

Schoharie River Center Summer Enrichment – July 5 – July 28, 2023 – Grades K-6, 8AM -5PM @ MES
MES students will have the opportunity to participate in outside activities, create art projects, enjoy weekly field trips to Mine Kill State Park, and explore the ecology of the Schoharie Creek.
Self-transport only. District transportation will only be provided for the field trips to Mine Kill State Park.

Mountains, Museums, and Music –July 10 – July 13, 2023 – Grades 9-12
MCS students in grades 9-12 will be able to participate in up to four activities – a hike of the Adirondacks or Catskills; a trip to a museum; and a Broadway Musical.
Self-transport to MCS. District transportation to destinations.

Modern Band – July 10 – July 21, 2023 – Grades 7-12, 9AM – 12 PM @ HS
MCS students in grades 7-12 will experience diverse musical repertoire and instrumentation within a modern environment. Teachers will lead, accompany, organize, facilitate, and adapt rehearsals/instrumentation (including voice) to student needs to create an autonomously student-led exploratory environment centering performing, arranging, rehearsing, and creating modern music of a variety of genres.

Chamber Music– July 10 – July 21, 2023 – Grades 7-12, 1PM – 4PM @ HS
MCS students in grades 7-12 will experience diverse musical repertoire within a more traditional setting of small chamber ensembles. Teachers will lead, accompany, organize, facilitate, and adapt rehearsals/instrumentation to student needs to create a more traditional chamber music experience for instrumental and vocal students.

The athletics department will provide supervision for students in grades 7-12 who would like to use the Fitness Center for workouts.

Excel Program – For students going into 7th or 8th – August 23 – August 24, 2023 @ HS
Many students struggle with the transition from Elementary School to the Jr./Sr. High School. Often times those anxieties are due to lack of transitional opportunities and knowing people who can help. The Excel program will work with students who have social anxieties, academic struggles and provide a nurturing transition. They will have an opportunity to walk through the school, meet students in other grade levels and meet teachers and counselors who will become familiar faces on the first day of school.

K-1 Bootcamp – August 21 – 25, New MES Students in K-1, 8:30 – 12:00 @ MES
MES offers a K-1 bootcamp for any incoming kindergarten or first grade student to get them into the swing of things in the elementary building. Students learn about classroom routines, become familiar with the different learning spaces at MES, and meet some of our faculty and staff members. It’s a great sneak peek for students to get ready for the new school year! Must enroll by Aug. 1, 2023

Joint Youth Commission Summer Program – June 27 – July 28, 2023 – All Grades, 9-12:30 @ MCS High School
The Middleburgh Joint Youth Commission provides a variety of programs for youth in the four participating municipalities (Town of Broome, Town of Fulton, Town & Village of Middleburgh). Summer programs include swim lessons and open swim, tennis, arts and crafts, open gym. This is free to all youth, even outside the tax areas.
In-door activities will occur in the foyer of the MCS Jr/Sr high school gymnasium.
This program is not supervisory in nature. Parents/guardians of elementary children must attend with their children.

Joshua Project Summer Meals Program – June 26 – August 25, 2023 – All Students, 12-1PM @ High School
The Joshua Project, now in its 10th year, will provide free meals to the Middleburgh community from 12-1PM Monday through Friday in the high school cafeteria. Lunch will be served from 12-1 PM.
