“It is important that we help give to the community, and by helping to clean the Creekside Park I find that it was a good experience for our SkillsUSA members.” SkillsUSA President CJ Thomas
Several students on the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Schoharie Campus spent part of a day recently cleaning up Creekside Park in Middleburgh.
This was part of a SkillsUSA community service initiative. “It’s an annual activity we undertake and have undertaken since Mr. (Bill) Rouleau’s class built a gazebo for the park,” SkillsUSA Advisory Gerald Place said. Rouleau is a retired construction teacher at BOCES and his students several years ago built a gazebo for the park.
SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school and students. The organization promotes personal and professional growth and offers students the opportunity to compete at the local, regional, state and national levels. The organization also promotes giving back to the community, which locally results in collections each year for food pantries and city missions, as well as volunteer activities such as the park cleanup.
