On Tuesday, May 17, Middleburgh Central School District residents will be asked to consider a $23,811,377 budget for the 2022-23 school year.
The Board of Education approved the proposed budget on April 13. The 23.8 million dollar proposal increases spending by 3.88 percent, or $889,137 from the current year, and includes a tax levy increase of $50,270 or 0.5 percent. Since the tax levy increase—the total amount of money to be raised through property taxes—is less than the district’s maximum allowable levy limit of 2.31 percent, the proposed budget needs a simple majority vote to be approved. Voters will also be asked to vote on a proposition for the anticipated purchase of three school buses and for two candidates for the Board of Education.
Public Hearings and Meet the BOE Candidates Night
On Wednesday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m., the district will conduct an open public hearing on the use of repair reserve funds and on the school budget proposal followed by a Meet the Board of Education candidates opportunity. There are three candidates running for two open seats. Sean Lawton, Debra Bechtold, and Vicki Hoerz will be available to take questions and the community is encouraged to attend.
