Andrew Fagergren, Liam Hooper, Serenity White-Woods and Mark Ciafardo took first place in the county at the Regional Envirothon competition at the Gilboa Power Authority.
The students competed as a team in the areas of soils, wildlife, forestry, aquatics and a current environmental issue. Their oral presentation this year was about recycling and waste management.
“Despite being involved in a multitude of other extracurricular activities and being pressed for time, this group rallied together to work as a successful team,” said Envirothon Club Advisor Mollie Burgett.
They are moving on to the state competition in Geneva, NY at the end of May. This competition determines which team will represent New York in the National Envirothon.
