Meet the New High School Math Teacher: Suzette Clark

image of high school teacher suzette clarkThis new addition to our Middleburgh High School team brings fifteen years of experience and a ton of math puns. Meet Suzette Clark, Middleburgh High School’s newest math teacher!

“I try to make it a point to wear a math themed shirt on Tuesdays to spread the joy and sometimes puns of math.”

Suzette received her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Mathematics and Education from the College of St. Rose.  She went on to teach high school and middle school mathematics in the Guilderland, Albany and most recently spent the last ten years teaching at her alma mater, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School.

When most people find out that I teach high school math their response is usually either how much they disliked math in school or loved Algebra or Trigonometry, but not Geometry,” Suzette said. “I tell people that Geometry is my favorite math topic, but Calculus is where I draw the line. “

Clark is also the sole proprietor of Berry Pi Services, LLC a tutoring service and says the name is a tribute to her maiden name, Berry.

“You don’t have to love everything about math all the time and that is okay,” she said. “I love teaching students that we can always take something challenging, break it down to the simple parts and put it all together.”

Question: What do you look forward to in your work at Middleburgh?

I am looking forward to becoming part of the Middleburgh community. During my visits, I was blown away by how everyone is welcoming, nice and passionate about the area. I am also looking forward to the drive because the area is beautiful!

Question: What are your favorite hobbies?

When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family (7 year-old twin sons, 18-month daughter and our dog) especially at our family camp in Greene County.

Question: Do you have a motto?

“Math is not a spectators sport, to learn math you have to do math,” and “Mistakes allow thinking to happen.”
