Meet Samantha Marsted, Elementary Special Education Teacher

image of Samantha Marsted, Elementary Special Education TeacherSamantha Marsted is the newest special education teacher to join the Middleburgh Elementary School team.

“All students deserve opportunities to learn, understand the world around us, and grow as individuals,” Samantha said. “Therefore, it is my job to make ensure that all students can succeed.”

Samantha grew up in Cortland, New York and went on to study Elementary Education and Special Education at Elmira College.  At Elmira, Samantha tutored others and was always helping out in classrooms.  In 2020, she student-taught Grade 5 in Horseheads, NY.

“Students learn in different ways,” she said. “They have different strengths, need different supports, have different interests, and have different experiences. It’s okay to be different. All of these differences make us who we are as individuals.”

In 2021, Samantha moved to Albany for the next step in her educational journey.  She earned her Masters in Inclusion and Special Education from SUNY Albany this past May.

My hope is that we can understand and celebrate what makes us all unique.”

Question: What do you look forward to in your work at Middleburgh?

I look forward to getting to know and working with the community at Middleburgh. I’m also excited to connect with students and support them in reaching their goals.

Question: What are your favorite hobbies?

I usually fill my free time by painting and creating art. Watercolor and acrylic paints have always been my favorites to use. However, I can also be found playing video games on my Switch too.

Question: Do you have a motto?

“Always keep trying.” It’s so important to always give it you best and not give up. We can always try again, look at the problem a new way, or even try other methods at overcoming challenges.
