The role of the school nurse in the presence of a pandemic has taken on another level. Middleburgh Central School District is fortunate to have intelligent, compassionate public health advocates for our students. At the Jr. / Sr. High School, Jen Adams, who has been with the district for 14 years, has been top tier in her efforts to guide us through these COVID times. And it is clear our new Elementary School nurse, Brittany Pickett understands her duty and the inherent responsibility of working with young children.
Ms. Pickett grew up in Stamford, NY and has a twin sister. Before starting at MCS, she worked as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse at Albany Medical Center. “After working the night shift, I decided I wanted a day time schedule where I can work with the pediatric population and continue to make positive changes by advocating and teaching about different health conditions while contributing to a community similar to my own,” Ms. Pickett said.
“Brittany Pickett certainly hit the ground running and is already making connections with students, teachers, and families through her work in the nurse’s office,” said Principal Irwin. “She stepped right into that position and the transition has been very smooth. We are lucky to have her on our team!”
Most of Ms. Pickett’s hobbies revolve around caring for her two German shepherds and spending time with her family. “There is always something to be grateful for,” is her personal motto.
