Clubs, Class Organizations, and Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, class organizations, and extra-curricular activities provide opportunities for students to pursue other interests, be involved in community service, work with peers toward common goals, and enhance their school experience. MCS offers a broad range of clubs and activities.

Elementary School

Art Club

The purpose of the MES Art Club is to provide students in grades 4-6, who have an interest in art, an opportunity to explore art forms beyond what is offered in the curriculum. Students engage with mixed-media painting and drawing, ceramics, sculpture in ways that support STEM learning.

Book Club

Book Club provides an opportunity for students in grades 4-6 to share books they love to read and meet local community authors.  Students will nurture a love of reading in a small and safe environment, improve comprehension and writing skills, encourage and enhance critical thinking, develop vocabulary and grammar. Book Club culminates with a final project where students create a written and illustrated book of their own.

Little Knights Program

The Little Knights Program is an intramural program for students in grades 4-6. Opportunities for participation range from soccer, basketball, volleyball and cheerleading.

Music Club and Show Choir

Selected students in grades 4-6 form and advanced choir ensemble and put on a winter musical.

Odyssey of the Mind

Students work as a team to solve long-term problems within pre-set parameters and ultimately compete with groups from other schools before a panel. Competitions occur locally, regionally, and at the state level as needed. Teams also compete spontaneously.

Ski Club

Students in grades 4-12 have the opportunity to learn and practice skiing with other club members. Club is self-funded.

Jr./Sr. High School

Art Club

Art club provides students in grades 7-12 with an opportunity to experiment with a variety of ideas and materials from clay to paint and more. Students can also use this time to work independently on their own specific art interests.

Athletic Association

The Athletic Association provides support for the school’s athletic programs. Students in grades 9-12 plan and coordinate activities to promote school spirit and student participation in athletics, through organizing pep rallies, locker decorating, posters, etc. Students also organize Homecoming, Scho-Burgh, Spirit Week and other school-sponsored events.

Class of 2025-Senior Class

Senior club members continue the work to emphasize class harmony and respect for individual class members. Students elect class officers and organize the senior back-to-school activity, Senior Trip and at least one community service activity project. Members also participate in organizing graduation events. Club members engage in fund-raising activities to support club expenses.

Class of 2026

Junior club members continue the work to emphasize class harmony and respect for individual class members. Students elect class officers and organize the Class Ring Breakfast, Junior Prom,  and at least one community service activity project. Members also participate in setting up for graduation. Club members engage in fund-raising activities to support club expenses.

Class of 2027

Sophomore club members continue the work to emphasize class harmony and respect for individual class members. Students elect class officers and organize the Sadie Hawkins Dance and at least one community service activity project. Club members engage in fund-raising activities to support club expenses.

Class of 2028

Freshmen students are encouraged to take part in creating a class identity through the election of class officers, and organizing a Winter Semi-Formal, at least one community service activity/project, and a freshman back-to-school activity or field trip. All students are encouraged to participate in activities to enhance class harmony and foster respect for individual class members. Club members engage in fund-raising activities to support club expenses.

Drama Club

Students in grades 7-12 plan and support activities to promote school spirit and student participation in the performing arts. Club members elect student officers who participate in managing financial transactions, keep notes and help facilitate the functions of the club. Students participate in fundraising activities as needed to support the work of the club, as well as potential enrichment activities like community events and having in-service workshops to build skills.

Fall Play

The MCS Fall Play allows club members in grades 7-12 to showcase their acting talents in a supportive environment. Students build confidence, teamwork and communication skills as they work through the audition process, rehearsals and performances. For the Fall Play, students work collaboratively with the director to select the show(s), create a set, procure costumes, complete lighting/ sound elements and produce a show that strives to be as student-run as possible.

Winter Musical

The Winter Musical allows club members in grades 7-12 to hone their singing, acting and dancing talents in a collaborative environment. Students build confidence, teamwork and communication skills as they work through the audition process, rehearsals and performances. As a production of this nature is a larger enterprise, students and families should expect the rehearsal schedule to be extensive and the commitment and priority level to be substantial.

Spring Film

The MCS Spring Film allows club members in grades 7-12 to demonstrate their creative talents through the use of film and video editing software. Students build confidence, teamwork and communication skills as they write, produce, direct, perform, film and edit a final video product.

Envirothon

Envirothon prepares students in grades 9-12 to participate in a hands-on environmental education competition where a team of up to six students work together.  Teams compete in five different categories (i.e. soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, and wildlife) and a current environmental issue.  Students compete at the regional level and may advance to state competition.

eSports

Through video games, students have an opportunity to experience teamwork, collaboration, and competition with other schools. Open to grades 7-12. Current game offerings include Fortnite and Rocket League.

Family and Consumer Science Club

Club members in grades 7-8 learn about cooking/baking techniques, terms, equipment, and nutrition as they create interesting food dishes. They explore the world of crafting/sewing and all it entails, while also working on individual and group projects to help our community. Students also collaborate with the Technology Department to create projects for Technopalooza.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

The FBLA mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Students in grades 9-12 develop business leadership skills, learn about American business enterprise, participate in projects to improve home, business and community, learn about money management, network, run the school store, develop “real world” skills and attend state and national competitions. Prerequisite: club members must have taken or currently be enrolled in a business course at MCS.

Future Farmers of America (FFA) 

FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. Club members in grades 7-12 elect officers, attend local, regional, and state activities, and compete at the Sunshine Fair and the NY State Fair.

Game Club

Students in grades 7-12 participate in various gaming activities, including but not limited to e-sports games, district-approved video games, board games, card games and role playing games.

History Club

History Club is for students in grades 7-12 with interest in local, national, and world history. Club members participate in projects with Middleburgh Library, Old Stone Fort and Middleburgh Historical Society. Students have the opportunity to take part in history trips locally and around the world, and engage in local community service.

Interact

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored international service club open to students in grades 9-12. Club members participate in fun and meaningful service projects and work collaboratively with Middleburgh Rotary.

Intramural Running Club

Running club promotes improved fitness and health of runners of all levels with the common goal of training for and participating in a 5K race. Open to grades 7-12.

Jazz Band

Students in grades 7-12 audition for Jazz Band and are selected based on recommendation of a music teacher. Club members perform at all MCS concerts, Miracle on Main Street, and at the NY State Capitol Concourse.

Marching Band

Members of the Marching Band perform during the Middleburgh Fall Festival Parade and ES Pumpkin Parade. Open to students in grades 7-12.

Music of the Knight

Select Choir performs during pep rallies, Scho-Burgh, at concerts and Technopalooza.

National Honor Society (NHS)

NHS is a nationwide organization for students in grades 9-12. Club members provide service to the community, school, or other organizations. Membership qualification is based on scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Students participate in Candy-Grams, Chicken BBQ, and various fundraisers raise revenues to offset costs associated with NHS events.

National Junior Honor Society

NJHS is a nationwide organization for students in grades 6-8. Club members provide service to the community, school, or other organizations. Membership qualification is based on scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Students participate in Candy-Grams, Chicken BBQ, and various fundraisers raise revenues to offset costs associated with NHS events.

Odyssey of the Mind

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

Club members learn about the best prevention tools to combat underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions. Students in grades 7-12 participate in the Woman’s Cooperative Club Easter Egg Hunt, Red Ribbon Week,  Pre and Post-Prom Activities and other special events. Students participate in fundraising activities to offset costs associated with the events.

Ski Club

Students in grades 4-12 have the opportunity to learn and practice skiing with other club members. Club is self-funded.

Spanish Club

Club members in grades 7-12 develop awareness, appreciation, and understanding of people and diverse perspectives of the Latinx world. Students are encouraged to learn more about the Spanish language. Club members engage in hands-on activities and field trips.

Student Congress

This student-elected organization has 4 main goals:

  1. To represent the views of the student to the faculty and administration and to assist in the formation of school policies.
  2. To act as a liaison between the faculty, administration, and the student body. 
  3. To promote school spirit and a positive school environment that will benefit the educational process
  4. To organize, promote and facilitate student activities and events.   

The Student Council and the Student Government provide opportunities for student leadership, represent student opinion, and address student and campus needs. Students in grades 7-12 engage in service projects and may participate in fundraising to be self-supporting.

Tech Club

Members of Tech Cub explore all manufacturing processes discussed in the wood and metal working shop, and expand their knowledge of the Engineering, Architecture and Manufacturing Curriculum. Students engage in video production Lego engineering, robotics, mechatronics, agriculture mechanics and design and build remote-control cars and drones, based on student interest. Club members host LegoMania at the elementary school and showcase other work at the Festival of the Arts and Tech. Open to students in grades 7-12.

Video Club

Students in grades 9-12 meet to discuss their experiences after watching selected movies at home. Club members explore themes and characters in films.

Yearbook

In the Yearbook Club, students in gradengage in all aspects of producing the school’s yearbook, from writing and photography to desktops publishing and design. They cover school events, collaborate on creative content, and develop leadership and time management skills as they prepare the yearbook for publication.
