A June 3 update from Superintendent Brian Dunn on the status of the district’s absentee ballot mailing

Middleburgh logoMiddleburgh school community:

As you know, all New York State schools are required by Gov. Cuomo’s recent executive order to conduct budget votes and school board elections via absentee ballots.

The sudden shift from traditional voting to absentee balloting for 2.7 million voters statewide presented all schools and election officials with significant operational challenges and unanticipated costs.

Shortly after Gov. Cuomo’s announcement, we joined many other schools in the Capital Region and contracted with area vendors to prepare and mail absentee ballots to all qualified, registered voters in our district.    However, we learned this week that our partners were unable to print and process ballots quickly enough to ensure timely delivery to voters’ homes.

The good news is that we’ve been assured our voters’ ballots have been mailed and should arrive in mailboxes beginning today, June 3, for most residents, and we expect to everyone by Thursday of this week.

The statewide deadline for absentee ballot submission is Tuesday, June 9, at 5 p.m.  Obviously, this is a very short timeframe for voters to cast their ballots.

To help address this short timeframe, in addition to mailing your ballot back to us (please allow for adequate mailing time), you can deliver your ballot to our district offices at a secure box set up at the entrance to the Jr. Sr. High School on these dates:

  • June 4, June 5 and June 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • June 9: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Your vote matters, so please be sure to vote. If you’re mailing in your ballot, we suggest doing so no later than Friday, June 5, to ensure timely delivery.  Otherwise, we’d greatly appreciate you delivering your ballot to our district office to ensure your vote is counted.

Thank you for the extreme kindness, patience and understanding you’ve shown to all of us during this unprecedented and unexpected voting mandate ordered by the governor. We greatly appreciate your awareness that we’re working as hard as we can to ensure everyone has the materials they need to vote in this important school budget vote/board election.

Sincerely,

Brian P. Dunn
