On Tuesday, Middleburgh Central School District voters approved the district’s proposed $22,922,240 budget with 0% tax levy increase for the 2021-22 school year by a margin of 258 to 74; which is a 77.7% approval rate. Since the tax levy increase—the total amount of money to be raised through property taxes—is less than the district’s maximum allowable levy limit of 1.76%, a simple majority vote (50% plus one) was needed to approve the budget.
Becky S. Binder (261 votes) and Pamela Standhart (249 votes) were reelected to serve three-year terms to the Board of Education.
MCS voters approved three additional propositions on this year’s ballot.
- Authorization to purchase 5 new buses in an amount not to exceed $491,000 as part of the district’s ongoing bus replacement plan. (251 yes; 81 no)
- Authorization to fund the Repair Reserve in an amount not to exceed $275,000 from the unappropriated 2020-21 fund balance; for repairs of future capital improvements not covered under state aid regulations. (264 yes; 68 no)
- Authorization for the Rensselaerville Library to collect annual taxes in the amount of $15,000 separate and apart from the annual school district budget to support the Rensselaerville Library. (184 yes; 145 no)
