Dear Middleburgh school community:
This morning, June 4, we were made aware of a major problem with the distribution of Middleburgh’s absentee ballots.
Despite the district meeting all deadlines and providing the correct, required information, a vendor processing error related to the distribution of Middleburgh’s budget and board of education absentee ballots happened. In many cases, the addresses do not match the name of the person, rendering the ballots invalid. Please know that Middleburgh did not submit faulty or incorrectly formatted information to vendor.
Like most districts statewide, we contracted with vendors to print ballots for this upcoming school budget vote and board election because of Gov. Cuomo’s extremely tight timeline for this absentee ballot process.
The good news is we have a solution which we have already implemented.
Corrected ballots are being printed and will be delivered to the district office today, June 4. They will be distributed to post offices and mailed out to residents tomorrow, June 5.
NOTE: If you do receive two ballots, please vote using the ballot with YOUR correct name and address shown.
Per Gov. Cuomo’s executive order, which announced that this year’s school budget vote and board of education election would take place exclusively by absentee ballot, all ballots must be returned to the district by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.
To accommodate for this short timeframe, we ask that you do not mail in your ballot, but rather hand deliver your ballot to our district offices on these dates:
- June 5, June 6, June 7 and June 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- June 9: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you mail, we ask that you immediately send your ballot back to allow adequate time so it’s received by 5 p.m. on June 9. However, the best thing to do at this time is to return your ballot directly to the “in-person” drop off box at the Jr./Sr. High School.
We know this creates additional stress as we all continue to navigate this mandated and unprecedented way we are required to vote. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you. Our staff has been doing herculean work to ensure everyone has the materials they need to vote in this important school budget vote/board election.
Thank you for your ongoing trust in us, in addition to the extreme kindness, patience and understanding you’ve shown to all of us during this unprecedented and unexpected voting mandate ordered by the governor. We will continue to provide you with updates.
