Senior Prepares for a Welding Career in the Military

Student, wearing a helmet, welds a piece of metal.Middleburgh High School senior Brady Stemmle spent a recent morning cutting metal with a torch during class at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center – Schoharie Campus. Stemmle is preparing for a career in welding in the military. In addition to his studies at MCS high school, he is attending classes at BOCES to help launch his career.

“It’s fun being outside and working with fire,” Stemmle said of his career choice. “I’ve always wanted to serve my country.”

Interior of a welding classroom lab.Stemmle is one of seven MCS students enrolled this school year in the Welding and Metal Fabrication program at BOCES. Students in the two-year program learn American Welding Society standards and earn certifications that prepare them for a career in the welding industry. In total, 50 MCS students are currently enrolled in Career and Technical programs at BOCES.
