Travel Ahead: Convenient Passport Opportunity

Middleburgh Central School District believes in the value of experiential learning and has witnessed our students’ growth whenever they travel with us both locally and internationally. Because of this, the district strives to provide many field trip opportunities at home and abroad.

The district would like to make our community aware of an opportunity to obtain passports for students and other household members. The Schoharie County Clerk’s Office will host a Passport Day on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., to provide extra assistance to anyone applying for a passport. They will even take the passport photos. Pre-registration is not required.

Passport Day is also a convenient way to prepare for upcoming domestic travel. Starting in May 2025, a passport or enhanced ID will be required for domestic flights.

To apply for a passport individuals need:

  • Birth certificates with raised seal and both parents’ names listed or naturalization papers
  • Photo ID such as a driver’s license or non-driver ID
  • Personal check or money order made payable to the Department of State. (The Schoharie County Clerk’s Office can take credit, debit, cash, check or money orders for their processing fee and photo fee.)

Routine passport processing times are six to eight weeks. Expedited service takes two to three weeks and is available for an additional $60 fee.

Passport applications are also accepted during normal hours at the Schoharie County Clerk’s Office. Call 518-295-8316 for additional information.

The district hopes parents and guardians will find this opportunity useful to prepare for travel during this school year or the years to come. Passports for those under 16 years old are valid for five years; for adults, passports are valid for 10 years.
