The Middleburgh Board of Education appointed Jeffery Ziegler to serve as interim superintendent starting Friday, July 1. Our current Superintendent Brian Dunn will continue to lead us through this school year to ensure a smooth transition. Mr. Dunn has accepted a position as superintendent of the Pine Bush Central School District.
BOE President Pamela Standhart said, “After interviewing Mr. Ziegler, we were sure that he was the best candidate to help make a successful organizational change in leadership. Mr. Ziegler has experience leading small schools and is very knowledgeable about Middleburgh. He seemed genuinely interested in coming here.”
Mr. Ziegler is a private education consultant who served as the superintendent of the Fort Edward Union Free School District for seven years. After retiring as Fort Edward superintendent in 2015, he has served in numerous interim leadership positions. Most recently Mr. Ziegler has been the interim superintendent of schools in the district of Fort Plain. In 2019-2020, he served as the interim superintendent in the Duanesburg Central School District. Mr. Ziegler also served as interim curriculum director in the Lake George and Schuylerville school districts.
The Board of Education is working with the Capital Region BOCES central administration in conducting a confidential search to find a permanent replacement to lead district operations. Information from the community forums and survey is being utilized to guide the superintendent search. The board expects to appoint the new superintendent in the fall.
Screening and interviews with superintendent candidates will begin after the application process closes on Friday, June 10.
