As the Community School program at Middleburgh Central School
District marks the end of its first month, students, program
staff and parents alike shared their praise for the activities
and opportunities that gave the program an exciting and
Whether jumping into the intensity of a Zumba workout for
physical fitness, finding peace and tranquility through yoga or
simply enjoying midday pick-me-up and each other’s company, the
Afterschool Program’s participants have discovered several ways
to stay active and involved after the last class of the day
comes to an end.
In addition to these fun activities, academics are strongly
emphasized by program staff. Many students use this extra time
to complete their homework before heading home for the day, and
those who choose not to use the time for homework help have been
offered lessons in coding, computer drawing, keyboard skills,
math, educational games and more.
The Afterschool Program has benefitted from a strong cast of
dedicated staff members. Teachers Jody DeJong and Jodi Coppollo
work alongside teacher assistants Michele Mix and Ella Malark,
while Jennifer Adams and Deb Brigadier tend to any
health-related needs of program participants and students Mary
Chichester and Madison Sossei have stepped up to help keep the
program running smoothly.
The Afterschool Program is still accepting registrations. Any
interested families are invited to fill out the registration
form online or to pick up a hard copy of a registration packet
in the main office of their child’s school. Information on buses
and drop-off points is also available online, and program staff
